Keep your lawn in tip-top shape throughout the seasons with these special tips.
Core aerate
Adjust soil pH if necessary (a quick visual test is to see if moss is present or if the grass is very thin and bumpy)
Over seed with a combination of grasses suitable for your area.
Fertilize with Organic Fertilizer.
Topdressing with compost.
Aeration
Many lawns have compacted soil, which restricts water and air movement through the soil.
Annual core aeration removes plugs to break through compacted soil to prevent thatch
layers from growing and choking out the lawn. Aeration is one of the best "extras" you can do to maintain high quality, healthy turf.
Spring Fertilization
Getting your lawn off to a good start requires an early spring fertilization, unless you used a slow release organic fertilizer late last fall.
Why?
Your lawn is just waking up. The weeds usually get started at the same time or sooner.
The goal from early spring fertilization is to get your lawn thick and tall as fast as possible.
This will help to crowd out many weeds making weed control applications less necessary.
Mow at no less than 2 1/2” to 3” from summer through early fall. The taller lawn will help with reducing weed growth.
